I have to thank Cassidy for recommending Kendare Blake’s Anna Dressed in Blood to me. I loved this book! It’s about Cas Lowood, a 17-year-old who kills dangerous ghosts. He inherited this ability from his father, who was killed by a ghost. Cas and his mother, a witch, have moved to a new town in Canada to pursue the ghost of Anna, a teenage girl who was killed in the 1950s and has been killing anyone who sets foot in her house. Cas has always been a loner, but suddenly he is befriended by Carmel and Thomas, who is a superfan of his, and he can’t help but really like them and appreciate their help. Cas is so easy to relate to; he realizes that his “profession” is a little strange and he doesn’t take himself too seriously. He compares the group he forms with Carmel, Thomas, and Thomas’ grandfather to the “Scooby Gang” from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and he makes references to Ghostbusters. This book is really fast-paced; I read it in one sitting and I’m a really slow reader. I totally recommend this book for its awesome combination of action and humor. I just saw an ad for the sequel – I’m going to make Mr. Brough order it right away!
