Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Call # FIC MAT

I just read the best summer road trip romance ever.  Thank-you, Jerrica, for recommending  Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson.  This is about Amy, whose world was torn apart three months ago when her father was killed in a car accident.  Amy blames herself because she was driving and she hasn’t been able to get behind the wheel of a car since.  Her mother has already moved to Connecticut and has arranged for her friend’s son to drive Amy and her Jeep Liberty across the country to her new home.  Of course, Roger, who Amy hasn’t seen since they were kids, is absolutely gorgeous.  I thought this was going to be one of those annoying things where the characters hate each other at first and I really didn’t want to deal with that.  I was so happy that this wasn’t the case.  Instead they instantly get along and their conversations are so natural that I was caught up with them right away.  I loved all of their cross-country adventures, from Yosemite to Graceland, and the people they meet along the way.  The best part of the book is the playlists Amy and Roger make .  Amy loves musical theater while Roger likes everything, from Led Zeppelin to the Talking Heads to Jack Johnson to Owl City.  I’m going to use the playlists from the book on Pandora to find some new music to listen to.  The music just adds to the summer feel of this book.  I will say that this book is a little predictable, but I didn’t care one bit.  I loved going along for the ride with Amy and Roger.
